ABBATE, Niccolo dell’, Italian painter. b. Modena, Italy, 1512; d. Fontainebleau,
France, 1571. He was trained and executed his earlier works in Bologna
where fine examples of his art may be seen in the University Library of
that city. About 1552 he was called to France to assist Francesco Primaticcio
with the frescoes in the Palace of Fontainebleau.
